Endings
The Darcia of episodes 25 and 26 is very different from the Darcia we knew before. At first, it isn't very clear what's so different; he acts basically the same, he has the same calm demeanor, and treats Cher exactly the same as he did before.

However, this is Darcia missing one very important thing: this is Darcia without Harmona. Or, to be more precise, this is a Darcia who as accepted Harmona's loss. He is probably behaving closer to his true personality than he has at any other time during the series.

Indications of this change are clear. He is calm when Jagara reveals her face, and says that he never thought he'd see that face again - indicating that he buried Harmona or otherwise let her go. Even though Jagara's troops killed Harmona, Darcia doesn't immediately lash out at her.

But the most telling change comes when Jagara attempts to open the door to Paradise. The last time we saw Darcia, the future had no meaning for him anymore. He seemed listless, barely alive, and refuted Kiba's belief that only the future mattered. Now, Darcia tells Jagara that her "Paradise" is only a place where you remember the past. It is not a place to change the future. He tells her that there is no future in her manufactured Paradise.

This proves that he is determined to save the future in any way he can, and not fall back into wishing for the past.

Darcia also demonstrates that he doesn't just care about Harmona and himself - he cares about all the people that would be left behind if he took off into Jagara's fake Paradise. He tells Jagara that "creating Paradise in a cursed world is meaningless." And not because of Harmona - because any such place wouldn't be Paradise.

After Darcia kills Jagara and turns to talk to Kiba, the change becomes even more pronounced. Darcia tells Kiba that he has been chosen - by what is unclear. But he says that he understands now, implying that he didn't before. And Darcia tells Kiba that "not only do we want Paradise...Paradise is calling us" before he turns and walks away.

Darcia's changed costume is another indication of his change. In my opinion, the new mask is extremely symbolic of Darcia's evolution; the twisted clown's smile indicates his own contempt of his previous actions. The tears falling from his right eye show his grief. His left eye is now uncovered, showing that he has accepted his "curse" and no longer blames the wolves for his misfortunes. The headband no longer has jewels along it, and his robe is tattered along the edges, all proving that Darcia has ceased to care about his status as an aristocrat.

There were shades of this Darcia all along, but it took losing Harmona for Darcia to become himself again. I suspect that getting to Paradise would have had the same outcome, though. In the end, we can only hope that everyone - including Darcia and Harmona - will eventually get to Paradise.
